چکیده

ITEM BIAS: MANTEL-HAEHSZEL AND THE RASCH MODEL John M. Linacre and Benjamin D. Wright Memorandum No. 39 MESA Psychometric Laboratory Department of Education University of Chicago February 1987 The Mantel-Haenszel (MH) procedure attempts to identify and quantify differential item performance (item bias). This paper summarizes the MH statistics, and identifies the parameters they estimate . An equivalent procedure based on the Rasch model is described. The theoretical properties of the two approaches are compared and shown to require the same assumptions. The MH procedure is shown to be statistically inferior to the Rasch procedure.

Formulating the Rasch Differential Item Functioning Model Under the Marginal Maximum Likelihood Estimation Context and Its Comparison With Mantel– Haenszel Procedure in Short Test and Small Sample Conditions

This study elaborates the Rasch differential item functioning (DIF) model formulation under the marginal maximum likelihood estimation context. Also, the Rasch DIF model performance was examined and compared with the Mantel–Haenszel (MH) procedure in small sample and short test length conditions through simulations. The theoretically known relationship of the DIF estimators between the Rasch DI...

The Impact of Raters’ and Test Takers’ Gender on Oral Proficiency Assessment: A Case of Multifaceted Rasch Analysis

The application of Multifaceted Rasch Measurement (MFRM) in rating test takers’ oral language proficiency has been investigated in some previous studies (e.g., Winke, Gass, & Myford, 2012). However, little research so far has ever documented the effect of test takers’ genders on their oral performances and few studies have investigated the relationship between the impact of raters’ gender on th...

Investigating the Effect of Self-, Peer-, and Teacher Assessment in Second Language Writing over Time: A Multifaceted Rasch Approach

This study investigated the accuracy of scores assigned by self-, peer-, and teacher assessors over time. Thirty-three English majors who were taking paragraph development course at Vali-e-Asr University of Rafsanjan and two instructors who had been teaching essay writing for at least two years at university, participated in the study. After receiving instructions on paragraph development, part...

A Note on “Constant Latent Odds-Ratios Models and the Mantel–Haenszel Null Hypothesis” Hessen, 2005

In a recent paper, Hessen (Psychometrika 70(3):497-516, 2005) introduces the class of constant latent odds-ratios models as an extension of the Rasch model for which the sum score is still the sufficient statistic for ability. In this paper the relation between both the general and the general parametric constant latent odds-ratios model and the Rasch model is considered.
